Mahalo NUI loa to all those who attended the Mele Hula Party and joint live performance with Kumu Kawena on Jan. 25, 2015 at Naka-Meguro Bio Kitchen Studio in Naka-Meguro, Tokyo. The audience was just so wonderful – I thank all of you so very much for being such a warm and receptive audience! In fact, it was so warm and welcoming, I didn’t feel nervous at all, and I was so very happy to share my music with all of you, straight from my heart! I also enjoyed sharing the stage with all the wonderful dancers who added so much to the party. Watching them enjoy themselves made it even more special!
It was the first time I performed at an event like that with a fellow “kamaaina” and, needless to say, I was in Seventh Heaven. To tell you the truth, when we got together for our [one-and-only] rehearsal, the first song Kumu Kawena played brought tears to my eyes. It took everything out of me to keep it together and continue playing the song, but right at the end, I just burst into tears from hearing his beautiful original composition “Nani Kou Lei” and just the realization…..that I was actually IN JAPAN, playing together with “a local boy who was also from Hawaii.” From the bottom of my heart, I want to thank Kumu Kawena for all his kindness and in taking a big chance on me – a “totally unknown artist” – to do this event with him. I can tell you all that his heart is filled with the aloha spirit and I appreciate it more than words can express. Moreover, Kumu Kawena’s wonderful family gave me FRESH flower leis (now, how often does THAT happen in Japan?!!!) and showered me with very kind and thoughtful gifts.
A very special “mahalo” to Miho Suzuki for all her hard work in helping to put this event together, to Tamami-san and Ryan-san from J-Planning, and to Jun-san for kindly doing the sound. I know very well how the “soundman can make it or break it” for a performer and Jun-san did such a wonderful job, on top of being SUCH a nice guy! Thank you so much Jun-san!
Thank you, everyone, for all your kindness and support. I had such a wonderful time, thanks to all of you!
Me ke aloha pumehana,
