Aloha Yokohama 2015 on Aug. 7

We performed at the Aloha Yokohama event on Friday afternoon, Aug. 7, 2015 on the indoor stage at the Osambashi International Passenger Terminal Building at Yokohama Port.  Once again, I was so happy and honored to have four Kumu Alaka’i from Kaiana Hula Studio perform with us in front of a very wonderful audience (what a good-size crowd we had!) who were all so kind to be so patient and tolerant of the heat.

It happened to be one of the hottest days of the year and the stage lights made me feel like I was in a roaster.  (After just one song, I was medium-rare!)   I honestly can’t remember ever perspiring like that!  One of the songs I played was “Akaka Falls” and believe me, I was perspiring so much, I felt like I (with a big, bold, capital “I”) was “Akaka Falls!”

One thing I really want to say… spite of “melting” on that stage from the heat, as I played my ‘ukulele, I looked out at the audience and I saw so many people in audience with their eyes closed and smiles on their faces, swaying gently to the music.  My heart was so filled with joy, I had to look away so tears wouldn’t fill my eyes.  THAT, alone, my dear, dear audience…..was worth being on that stage, performing while feeling like a roasted chicken and Akaka Falls at the same time!  And I thank you from the bottom of my heart for continuing to sit there and watch the performance, all the while tolerating that heat!

Half of the repertoire of songs we performed were from my CD, which was being sold at the Ocean’s & It booth.  I really want to thank Ocean’s & It for providing our Hawaiian attire and for being so kind to carry my CD for the public to purchase.  This company is so full of the aloha spirit, with all my heart, I sincerely wish them continued growth and success with their business because they truly deserve it!
